Meet sensei Claude
Claude Berthiaume, practicing Aikido since the age of 17, trained extensively in Japan in 1981, after which he became the co-founder of the Centre Métropolitain d'Aikido in 1983, which, together with Aikido Kensankai, merged to become Aikido de la Montagne in 1988.
Claude developed close ties with Yamada Shihan and more so Kanai Shihan, who inspired him to study Iaido earlier. Both Yamada Shihan and Kanai Shihan were students of Morihei Ueshiba, Founder of Aikido. Under their supervision, Claude traveled extensively in Canada, the United States, the Caribbean, South America and various European countries to attend over twenty seminars every year.
Now, Claude Berthiaume is one of the 7 technical directors of the East Coast United States Aikido Federation (USAF) and chief instructor of Aikido de la Montagne in Montréal, teaching 6 days a week. He has been awarded a 7th degree black belt in 2004 and the title of Shihan. Besides Aikido he also teaches Iaido very passionately.
